About Me . . .
My background:
I grew up in Idaho and moved to Utah as a young adult. My husband Ben and I have been married for 40 years and have 6 children who have attended Utah public schools. We also have 10 grandchildren. We love spending time with all of them. Our two youngest sons have autism and it has been one of the greatest challenges and blessings of my life. Through them, I have gained greater understanding and compassion for others. Serving my community is important to me. I appreciate different points of view and enjoy serving with those who have diverse backgrounds and ideas. I believe it makes the world a more interesting and productive place when we can communicate and learn from one another. I have had the opportunity to serve in many different positions. It has given me a broad perspective and I continue to grow and learn as I serve. I loved serving on the State Board of Education. The opportunity to meet the incredible people of my district and hear their thoughts was a wonderful, unforgettable experience for me. A few years ago, my husband and I made the decision to move from the Salt Lake Valley to beautiful Weber County where we now live. I have loved the experiences I have had here and hope to be able to continue to serve my community. My employment background is in finance. Most recently, I have worked as a finance manager for the state. This gives me unique qualifications and understanding when it comes to handling a $4 billion education budget. Decisions are not always easy to make. Often there are complex, competing sides to an issue. I try to weigh all of the circumstances and make the decision I feel is best based on feedback and input I have received. My main consideration is always to look at how each decision will affect our students - and do what is best for them. |
