About Me . . .
I grew up in Idaho and moved to Utah as a young adult. My husband Ben and I have been married for 37 years and have 6 children who have attended or are attending Utah public schools. We also have 8 grandchildren. We love spending time with all of them.
Our two youngest sons have autism and it has been one of the greatest challenges and blessings of my life. Through them, I have gained greater understanding and compassion for others.
Serving my community is important to me. I appreciate different points of view and enjoy serving with those who have diverse backgrounds and ideas. I believe it makes the world a more interesting and productive place when we can communicate and learn from one another. I have had the opportunity to serve in many different positions. It has given me a broad perspective and I continue to grow and learn as I serve.
I enjoy serving on the State Board of Education. The opportunity to meet the incredible people of West Valley, Magna, Tooele and Juab counties and hear your thoughts is a wonderful, unforgettable experience for me. I am honored to be able to represent you and hope to hear from you often.
My employment background is in finance. Most recently, I have worked as a finance manager for the state. This gives me unique qualifications and understanding when it comes to handling a $4 billion education budget.
Decisions are not always easy to make. Often there are complex, competing sides to an issue. I try to weigh all of the circumstances and make the decision I feel is best based on feedback and input I have received. My main consideration is always to look at how each decision will affect our students - and do what is best for them.
